Creating A Room

Room Moderator status is automatically granted to a member who creates a room.

Being a Moderator or Owner of a Registered Room

Room Moderator status is automatically granted if is listed in the Moderator List of a registered room and given a password by an Administrator.

Adding a Moderator

A Moderator can be added to a room from the Room Options dialog box:

  2. The Room Options dialog box is displayed.
  3. Access the Room Registration tab.
  4. Access the Room Moderator sub-tab.
  5. Enter the nickname of the member whom you want to be a Moderator.
  6. Select the Moderator radio button.
  7. Click Add.
  8. Click OK to close the Room Options dialog.

Another Room Moderator Can Temporarily Grant Moderator Status

A Room Moderator can provide another person temporary Moderator status:

  1. Click on the member's name in the list of members on the right side of the ChatSpace screen.
  2. Apply Moderator status:
    • Right click on the name and select Give Moderator Status from the pop-up menu
      - or -
    • Click the Give/Take Moderator Status button in the top toolbar.
When the temporary Moderator leaves the room, Moderator status is relinquished.

You can also use the same steps to remove temporary Moderator status from a member.

Starting A New Dynamic (On The Fly) Room

If you create a new room, you are the Room Moderator. This status is a one-time opportunity. If you leave the room, and return while others are still chatting, you are granted Room Moderator status again, unless the room is empty and deleted, at which time you must re-create the room.

Moderator Chat Controls

Room Moderators have additional controls in their assigned rooms. These controls allow Moderators to manage the room content and remove or mute disruptive members.

Controlling Access to your Room

Depending on the purpose of your room, you may wish to allow all members to access it, or you may want to restrict the room to be accessible to only certain members. ChatSpace provides you with several way of controlling access to your room.

Members Only

A Members Only room maintains a list of members who are allowed to access the room. No others may enter.

Password Protected

Invitation-Only

An Invitation Only room only allows members who have been invited to enter. When a member attempts to access the room, he or she is notified that the room is invite-only and the member is offered the chance to knock for entry. If the member chooses to knock, all moderators currently in the room receive the knock notification and can either ignore it or allow the user to enter.

The Room Options dialog box is displayed.
